When I got this, it looked wonderful. I was pretty sure I could plug it in and go with it. Light worked. No sound at all from the motor. hmmm, took the belt off. Still not a sound. Ok, Ill deal with that later. Opened it up and oiled everything. Spinning nicely. Now to thread it. whoops? why does the tensioner mount spin? I'll need to check and see if it even has the set screw. GF smiled and said, "You wouldn't want it perfect right out of it's bentwood case." Of course, she is right. January 1952 .

I'm not sure when they changed the tension to include the pin to release the tension when the presser foot was raised. I found the adjuster's manual for the 127/128 at http://parts.singerco.com/IPinstManuals/127_128.pdf
On page 10 of the pdf (pg 15 of original) shows the break=out of the tension assembly.

Tension pin is working correctly , Janey. but I did see the little slide in the PDF thanks. What is n't working ( yet) is teh set secrew that holds the tensioned stud in place. I'll get it.

When I am working on a 27 or 128 tension, I usually refer to the manuals and http://mysewingmachineobsession.blog...-assembly.html
