Need a water proof fabric non aerosol glue
I'm busy fixing sewing machine cases again and need a waterproof glue to put the fabric on the repaired cases.
I do not want an aerosol type glue, it's too messy and uncontrollable. What I'd like to find is something that you can brush on and get at a hardware store or hobby store. I don't have the time nor inclination to mix it myself so a premade product is what I'd like to find.
Any ideas?
Joe

SteveH,
If I can find a local source of brush on contact cement, I'll probably use that. Other wise I'll try the watered down white glue.
However most of the sewing machine cases I've pealed the coverings off of were glued on with some sort of black or dark brown asphalt type adhesive. Real messy to sand off too.

the onces that i have worked with also had the old dark amber colored residue, but in my experience that is what really old "hide" glue looks like. BTW Elmers is not tecnically a "hide" glue, it is a synthetic version but it makes a really good substitute for those who do not support melting animals into products.

Steve,
Animals were put on this earth for our use. Turning them into glue, clothes, shoes, belts or food doesn't bother me one tiny bit.
That old hide glue can be an absolute bear to get off too. Sometimes it just decays and falls apart, then 2" over it's still rubbery and holds like a C-clamp.
The Elmers carpenter wood glue is one of my favorite glues. I've not had anything come apart that I've glued with it. Not yet anyway.
