I have found that most of the Goodwill Stores post items like vintage Singer sewing machines in Craigslist and on EBay with buyer paying much more plus shipping. I stopped going to Goodwill because they do that. Other thrift and recycle centers like St Vincent DePaul and Salvation Army don't appear to sell online to get higher prices.

You found a beauty. Even if you have to buy a bobbin case and foot pedal you made out well.

bobbin cases for vintage machines have become the current rage. They can junk the rest of the machine and make good $$'s on the bobbin cases and just throw them in a padded mailer...no packing!

I've heard it is a good idea if you are at a class to take the bobbin case with you if you go out during lunch break. Sad but true.

That is sad that you can't trust people at something like a sewing class.

As far as the non-profits selling online to get a higher price goes, why shouldn't they? The money goes to good causes and it's no different than anyone else who tries to get the best price possible. I actually like Goodwill's site. It gives me access to a far larger selection of machines than I would ever have if I only shopped local and the prices are still lower than your average Ebay seller wants.

I have had good luck locally too and do prefer it because then I don't have to pay shipping but it's nice to have the option.
