Singer 66-14
I have a Singer Model #AF622538 mfg date August, 1940 with the crinkle finish. According to the singer data base this is a Model 66-14. What exactly do these numbers after the 66 on Singer machines mean.

Usually not much - often minor variations of the machine, most often the "power" method.
According to Ismacs
66-1 was back clamp, treadle
66-3 was back clamp, hand crank
66-4 was when they updated to side clamp feet, spoked wheel for treadle
66-5 same as 4 with hand crank
66-6 same as 4, with disk wheel for electric motor
66-8 same as 6 with lower (new style) bobbin winder
66-13 is like 8 but in a portable case
66-14 is probably the first one with significant changes, easier to get the bobbin out and reverse. Spoked wheel for treadle
66-15 is same as 14, hand crank
66-16 is same as 14 with disk wheel and electric motor
66-18 is the same as 16, with "wrinkle finish"
66-24 is the same as 18, with a different motor.
BTW - I have a 66-16 manual and a 66-18 manual, they show the same machine, except the 18 has the wrinkle finish and the 16 does not. The 18 manual is 6 years older, and also shows a solid presser foot, where the 16 shows a hinged presser foot.
I have these to study the changes in attachments over the years.
