Default white 312 stitch length knob stiff!

Anybody have one of these? I swear I thought I had it all working perfectly when I gave it to my little next door neighbor girl for Christmas. But today that stitch length knob was so stiff! There was no movement at all, and even after I used a ton of sewing machine oil and even some WD40 (that's when you know I'm desperate, lol.) I'm inclined to believe this is an entrenched problem, because the knob had been repaired. I took off the knob to be able to oil the mechanism and I finally used some vise grips to turn it. Holy macshmoly. It barely works, but I'm not sure what to do. Heat gun? PB Blaster? Hand grenade? It's giving old heavy sm's a bad name, lol.
