using one of those is a much more logical way to source parts, opposed to using ebay or ? and paying 200 x's the price of those machines.
Before spending anything it would be good to know if it has a bent shaft.

I would agree + you know it was from a machine that was not functional and not one someone just decided was worth more for parts.

Wow, lots to absorb. Well, I'd rather buy a few parts than trek to New Orleans which is a "trip" from here and I never enjoy going there unless I have to. Count in gas both ways, a meal, etc. and I'd just as soon order. I still think I need a new hand wheel if the potted motor from the donor machine could work. Then I would need the wiring (have some good foot pedals) - I have all the screws, bobbin winder, belt guard, etc. from the donor machine. I don't think the donor machine will ever work because of the broken end. Plus there is that stuff on the functional one with the spoked hand wheel if I decide to go with a belted motor. How am I doing so far?

10X - it does turn over easily. But the end of it is broken. Everything seems to move on machine that came with potted motor and broken hand wheel. Don't know status of motor, and the end of the piece is broken, as in Post #25.

I have two machines. Black headed Singers. One is a 15- as indicated on a little metal piece under the singer badge. It was in a treadle cabinet. It has a spoked hand wheel and is highly functional. I came upon a 15 with a potted motor and broken hand wheel. When we got the hand wheel off we saw the end of that shaft was broken, as in post #25. I am trying to make one electric machine. I don't know if the motor works or can be fixed.

Yes, you are confused. My name is spelled MIRIAM.

I'm not using any parts - it is a good machine - it may need some wires etc. tension is on the nose end like a clone - the bobbin is like a clone - does SS only like a clone - made in Japan like a clone - but it will not donate the screws that hold the belt guard on because there are none.

Is the top hat looking part broken or the shaft the top hat looking part goes on broken?
Have you removed it?
