I got a great deal on this machine because the set screw was missing from the cradle. The machine was wired to the post and would not settle into the cradle. I assumed the set screw was lost. The set screw I used will not tighten down. It stays loose and the cradle slides on the post. I tried another set screw. It didn't help.

I have more hinges (Singer), another cradle (it's rusty though) and more set screws. Are all set screws, hinges and 301 cradles the same? Where would you start?

edit --- it was the hinge.

Actually, the change of the hinge didn't totally solve the problem. It still slips on the post, but not as much. There must be some problem with the cradle.
