Default 401 and 500- same feet?

Today i got a set of feet, a few top hat cams, a 500 instr. Book and a feed dog cover plate for$2.00! Yippee! I have a 401 that came with one foot and one cam. These seem like they fit. Am I right in thinking this?

Yes, the feet and cams work with both machines. I'm confused about the feed dog cover plate. Is it the straight stitch throat plate with number 174529? The 401 and 500 have a lever to raise the throat plate to darn or FMQ.

I'm not sure that the plate I'm using if from a 401 or a 503, but they are 172200 (zigzag) and 172201 (straight stitch).

Here's a picture of the plate. I'm pretty sure it's from another machine. I can probably use it with one of my other ones. I have some that don't have a feed dog drop mechanism.

Actually, I should know better, there are buttonholers that will work on slant shank machines and do have a feed dog cover plate. I just got a buttonholer for Touch & Sews the other day. The ones for the the slant shank machines are longer than that.one. I'll have to look at the ones I have for the regular slant shanks like the 301, 401, 503, etc. A good picture of various plate for the buttonholer can be found at http://www.thesewbox.com/2008/10/sin...ttonholer.html

I've had trouble getting screws in feed dog cover plates like that one so if you have any tips, please let me know. I have enough buttonholers that if I can't get the screw in, I have plenty of others that I can borrow from.

Hey, Janey! Jaaaaannneeeeeeyyyyy! I found a box of attachments from long ago. Hoping I got them from the thrift store without the machine. Also hoping I still have the lid to the box. It has thst single hole throat plate you mentioned above (174529) as well as 14 top hat cams (series 173 amd 174) and mystery items #21906 and 163455 which look very interesting. It also has 2 snap on feet, which is strand, as there's no ankle. Hmmm. Oh, and the plastic bobbin is smaller on one side than the other.

Trying for a picture.

Hopefully this isn't too small to see.

When I commented earlier, I totally misunderstood the question. Sorry.

The buttonholer that I bought with my T&S is part number 381116. It is labeled Singer Professional Buttonholer. It came with plate #383013. The 383013 has no part number engraved on it. I assume it's the 383013 because I've had the buttonholer since it was new and it's still in the original box.The box says it's "for use on 700, 900 and 2000 series machines. For 401 500 600 620 and 640 machines use part 161825"

The buttonholer I bought a few months ago with a 503 is labeled, Professional Buttonholer by Singer. It is part 161829. It has no description of what machines it fits other than Slant Needle Zig Zag sewing machines.

I have a Singer Monogrammer for slant needle zig-zag machines that appears to be similar to a buttonholer. I bought it in an estate sale. It says, "accessory plate 161825 furnished is for use on 401 500 620 630 and 640 series machines. For 700 series machines use, 507661."

The photo below shows the 3 plates. The 161825s little "barbs" are almost flat. The 507661 stick up higher with the one on the right in the photo sticks up even higher. On the 383013 plate, both barbs stick up equally high.

The bobbin that is bigger on one side is probably a bobbin for a Touch and Sew. If it doesn't have a real hole in it and unscrews/comes apart, that's what it is.

The plate you show in your first post appears to be the buttonholer plate for the older Singers like the 15-91 and 201s.

Those parts are off a Touch and Sew, probably the 600 series. If it was a 700 series, it would usually have some white cams, too. You can use most all that stuff, except the bobbin. I don't know if a 400/500 machine will chain stitch, but you have the parts there.
