Default 401's

what is the difference (if any) between a 401 and a 401A? I've had the 401 since I was a child, but just stumbled up and bought the 401A for 20 bucks at a flea market

I didn’t know that there were ever any Singer 401 machines made. I thought that they were all 401A.

No difference, the A just signifies where it was made.

There are 401A's made in USA and 401G made in Germany. If you search you may find info on the 401G.
