How do you determine whether a machine is a 66-1, 2,3,and so forth? I just purchased one and the treadle cabinet at a yard sale and when I checked the serial number it was a 66 made in 1929. Thank You for your input.

If it has back clamping feet it's a -1. Have a look at ISMACS for more information on sub models.

being a 1929, it should not be a back clamp as that went out in the early 20's. Often the sub designation was for something like power source, and not that much of a difference. (btw, Singer did not use all the numbers in between their sub designation).

I have not been able to get on the ISMACS site today.

Neither have I! Google has the pages cached but I panicked before I thought of that.

There is a simple visual chart of differences in Singer 66s on this blog page. Congratulations on your treadle!

I took a snapshot of their site about a year ago because it does seem a bit unreliable. Not allowed to reproduce even the most public information here though. Admins warned me not to share public information.

Anyway, I have told them about the problem.

I've been wondering the same thing. Looks like mine is a 66-4 according to the blog post that Quincunx posted.
