900 kids 4 99s Lotos of stitching
Yesterday was Kansas, USA's birthday. To celebrate it our museum in Topeka opened it s doors free to kids and had many hands- on demonstrations. I once again took 4 Handcranks and two helpers.
Winter weather closed I-70 and prevented 500 kids from making it.
We kept the machines hopping though with making book marks by folding over scrap fabric and having the kids sew a quick seam . Some were very fascinated. One teacher warned, "if you sew your finger to a machine, you still don't get to take it home." My dear sister said, "If a needle gets you and you get the machines bloody, by brother won't like it."
Lots of the kids were home schoolers. Very good behaviors. My sis want to do it again and she drove 125 miles to do it.
When we had slower times, some of the kids made bags and one little girl made a Barbie sized pillow. That was a fun twist.
Quilters were next door to us and kids that went from us to them tried to hand crank an electric Pfaff or a FW.
These were mostly grade schoolers with a few pre-schooler thrown in. When I offered snips to one boy he said, "Mom won't let me use them yet.?" One kid didn't know left and right and tried to feed fabric with his right hand and turn the handwheel with his left doing a cross armed posture. Easily corrected.
I slept well last night
The little cutie was 4. She cranked well.
