Reactivating this thread! I found a Grasshopper clone for sale. I have a Grasshopper with a bad motor. Question --- Would the motor from this clone be a match for my Elna Grasshopper? If so, how hard to replace?
Any info would be awesome! Thank you in advance.

I am not familiar with these machines, but my first question would be what is wrong with your current motor? What's it doing? Not doing? Can it be serviced/fixed? Can you post pictures of the current motor?

Sorry for the late reply! I don't have a pic of the motor. The motor is VERY weak. I took it to my quilt shop to be serviced, The guy told me the motor was bad and a new motor wouldn't be cost effective. Since he told me the motor was weak, I haven't tried sewing with it because I was afraid I would start a fire. I trust the guy and he is honest. I have taken various machines to be serviced by him and he does a good job. I have personally seen him help people who thought their machines were broken, only to find out that it was setting (like the feed dogs were down) and not charge them anything.
Phew! That was a lot. The motor should be the standard motor for a Elna Model 1, AKA Grasshopper.
Thanks for the questions and again, sorry for the late reply.

I would pull the motor and take it apart, maybe not all the way, and clean it up. I use CRC QD Electronics Cleaner on almost every motor that lands on the workbench. Brushes can be replaced if necessary. Ask your guy if he'll try, you have nothing to lose and a working motor to gain.
