Brand New Kenmore 12331
#12
We have a Kenmore that starts with " 148 " wondered if it is older or newer
It's model # 148 15600 Serial # 86924 looks new but came with book and original pieces.
Paid more because it came with sewing basket from neighbor whose wife died. Will follow thread.

I'd vote for older, though I don't know if they had different manufacturers providing machines at the same time, and I just assume that the smaller the first three numbers are, the older the manufacturer.

That 1560 was made from 1976-78. The 148 models manufactured by Soryu are concurrent with 158, which it the manucaturing code for Jaguar/Maruzen. Old Kenmore sewing machine group on Yahoo has a timeline of Kenmore manufacture dates.

I don't recall a "bell bottom" comeback in 1987 but I do recall one around 1995-1998. I graduated high school in 1989 and everyone back then pinned or tucked into their socks the bottoms of their jeans to make them snug fitting on the lower leg. I had my oldest kids in 95' and 98' and sometime during that period bell bottoms came back for a couple of years.
That is strange about the bell bottom picture. Maybe they used old stock photos rather than find new ones? Strange indeed.
