Likewise with my might-be-a-Davis cabinet. Funny how I'd never noticed that.

The cabinets ranged from early 1900's treadle to mid 50's electric, both single flap and double flap styles.

The White cabinet I have in the house is also this way, however the National I have in the house is the other way - I can check the other non-Singers later, when I get out to the shed.
I just checked my 5 Singer cabinets, and my configurations are the same as Macybaby...2 outer sections toward the cabinet and the inner section toward the flip out extension.

Thank you I get it now. I did a quick check of three and they all go the same direction. The one in your hand would be on the extension. (unless you live down under )

This is the way i naturally want to put them. Thank you for checking.

It must be a matter of convention. From a strength standpoint it wouldn't matter.
The bulge goes up. Otherwise the extension won't open and close properly. From a practical standpoint it makes no difference while actually sewing. If you also like to lay your cutting mat on the sewing table then it sometimes interferes.

I would think there is only one way a hinge could go on. It won't work as a hinge if it is on the wrong way. Could be I have no idea what you are talking about, but hinges only work one way.

You're correct Mavita. I don't think I was clear enough. Someone else mentioned putting them on with the bulge down.

IIRC my Singer treadle cabinet has hinges that are longer on one side than on the other. Those ones had to go on the same way they came off.

They only go right side up, not up-side down but they can spin clockwise if they are symmetrical. LOL such a confusing topic!

I think I have them just about done. The flaps open and close all the way correctly and the two extensions meet in the center evenly. I had to make a minor correction to even that up so I have two holes patching and will need to re-drill the screw holes.
