Current Price of a Featherweight
#12
Several weeks ago I purchased a 1951 Featherweight on Ebay. I used the "buy it now" price and paid $248.00 plus $28.00 shipping. It's in excellent condition, runs well and has no flaws. The case is in almost perfect condition and I got loads of accessories, bobbins, oil and motor oil and the original manual in perfect shape except for one slightly loose page. My husband shortened, slightly, the cord to eliminate a small break on one side of it. I think I got a good deal. One of my fellow quilt guild member is selling her collection starting at much higher prices - and they are not Centennials either, just regular ones like mine.

One problem is that unless you check the "sold" listings on ebay, you are seeing the "asking" prices. With craigslist you never really know whether the item sold, or what the final price was, unless you're the buyer or seller. Prices on FW's are different in different parts of the country, and some people come up with fantastic deals because the seller is unaware of the value of the machine. IMHO, $300 is a little high if the machine is not in good condition with a good case, but that doesn't mean you won't get it if you wait a bit. I paid $300 for my FW 2-3 years ago, but it came with the folding table, a good case, and it was in running condition (folding table required new veneer and some new hardware). Good luck!

I bought one this weekend locally. It is in very good condition, and so is the case, and it has the cord & foot pedal. But there are no attachments or manual with it. I paid $225+ tax. In the past few days several have sold on eBay for less than $200, and several for over $200. I think it's the economy.

I sold my Featherweight to a wonderful woman on this board, and that money went toward a mechanical Bernina I bought yesterday. A Bernina 1031, quilters edition from the early '90s (?). I LOVE it. Thanks to all of you who contributed your thoughts and ideas. :)

I paid more than $300 for my FW. I am waiting for it to arrive. It has been cleaned and serviced, has a new case too.
A lot of machines on ebay have been going for well over $300. I'd hold your price.
