I took the paper off another non-singer case. It was like wallpaper on a dried out smaller scale. I think I just used water.

I've seen some beauties decoupaged with paper of your choice, but you can decoupage with fabric also
Or how about a newspaper from the FW's year of birth?

She has a bunch of "naked" cases also pinned, maybe following the links on the photos will take you to some directions?

Dave MCCallum's featherweight book / video talks about the smell and he uses a light bulb on a stand to kill the mold from the animal glue that holds the case together and the paper on.
