Durkopp CL ???
I saw this on Craigslist and it looks like an industrial early long arm or leather as in shoe or purse making machine. How the heck do you use it? Can anyone tell me about it? Could it be used as a longarm sit down machine? Thanks for any information and experience!

At that price if it's still available I'd go get! I paid $250 for the Adler shown.
It's a patcher. Very popular in leather sewing circles. As Mom3 said probably not so much for quilting.
Used to repair shoes and boots etc. - sew patches onto jackets - things like that.
Not familiar with the Durkopp in particular but it's probably similar to the Singer 29K or Adler 30 class machines.
The cool thing about them is that the foot swivels 360 degrees.
You can add a table to use it as a flat table machine.
Here's a youtube video link of one in action.

Industrial machine. Mechanically designed for heavyweight thread. Large needles - normally leather (knife edge like) needles. Presser foot might be feed mechanism as there are no feed dogs. Swivel presser foot allows sewing in any direction. Small bobbin which only holds about 9 ft of thread. (I am comparing this to my Singer 29-4.)
End result: While it does have a tall/wide throat space it is not suitable for longarm quilting use.
