I took my FW to be checked as it was sewing very slow. I tried everything including cleaning, oiling etc, belt adjusting and even switching out the pedal. When I stopped in to check at the shop it was being worked on right then. I knew it was in very good condition, but I found out it was a Centennial edition, in better than very good condition, and how to rid the case of the musty smell. I'd tried leaving in the sun, etc, but Mr. C. Suggested I put it in a low oven, 200 degrees for 2 hours. It won't burn or cause any glue to loosen and will kill any mold lurking. I've tried it and so far so good! Just thought I'd pass on this tip and my good fortune. Also it is the second FW I've bought, only paid $235.00 and did not even know what I had except that the stenciling was pristine and there were no nicks or marks. I paid more for my first! And it was the belt! The old was getting brittle. Runs sooooo nice with a lovely stitch!

Wow, that idea is just crazy enough that I might try it. I've never been able to get smell out of mine, either. Cat litter, sunshine, etc. You got a good deal on yours, and I'm pleased for you that it is doing so well.

We put a bag of ceder wood chips in ours and it absorbed most of the odor. Considering the glue used in the construction of the boxes is of animal origin I doubt you'll ever get completely rid of it.

I sure wouldn't bake the box. The odor isn't worth ruining an original case.

I'm lucky. My case had no odor. I purchased Phyllis (named after the man that sold her) and a card table for $300. She looks and runs like she was new.
