Default Featherweight will not make thread loops

I just got my first featherweight and it will not make the stitches.
I held on to the threads when I first started and it goes but does not make the stitches.
I think it might be the timing. Is that something I can fix or do I need to take it in for service? Any suggestions on where I take it? Also any ideas what I should expect to pay for this?

Thank you

You will have to look in your manual. Which way does the needle go in? Which way does the thread pass through the needle? I'm sure someone will get on here and try to save you the trouble. It is good to look it up so you know for yourself. Your manual is your friend. It is unlikely it is out of time.

Did you pit the needle in correctly? It is opposite to most, the flat part is to your left (as you are facing the machine), therefore you are threading right to left!

I meant put, also, remember the bobbin has to be put in so the thread pulls to the right, and back in to hook around (doubt that you get that) but good luck.

Sounds to me that the needle is in backwards. If you did not get a manual, download a free one online. Make sure the needle is in correctly and the machine is threaded correctly. Chech the vintage section for help as well.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

I do have the manual, and have the needle in with the flat side to the left side, but I did not even think about it, I put the thread into the needle left to right, and it should be right to left.

I did read about the bobbin and making sure I have it over the top and the thread to the right, but will check that again.

Will try all the tips and let you know what happens.

THANKS!!!

Thank you to EVERYONE who helped me with my issue with the machine not sewing. I had threaded the needle backwards, I did have the flat side to the left, but had threaded it from left to right instead of right to left.

It works now. It was a little noisy so got out the manual and gave it a drink of oil in all the spots, and it is humming away!!!
