Tammi,

Just watched your videos from the thread Miriam linked to. Honestly I've done all that several times, but I did enjoy the videos.
Now I've got to go wiggle the pieces on my machine and see if they do what they are supposed to do.

Yes it was.

I got the offending parts freed up. I should remember to listen to Miriam when she tells me what to do. She was right the whole time. I ended up using break clean on the horizontal plungers as I manually moved the needle bar back and forth. It took a bit of doing but the break cleaner did what the other things I tried didn't.
Now I'm gonna hose all the innards with break clean to get rid of all the old oil. Then start from scratch with Tri-Flow.

I have spent 8 or more hours on one of those stacks and then only made a few dollars for my time. It's why I like the 403 and the 503 better - I've never had one of those all gunked up like the 401 or the 500. I sure wonder what they were using for oil back in the day. When that stuff sets it sets up like glue.

Well, for decades my mom used .... ugh I hate to admit it .... 3 -IN-1 oil. I suspect that is what a lot of these old machines saw.

Poor things.

3 in 1 oil will set it up pretty bad - I have inflicted that garbage on a machine and had to clean it up - yuck what a mess
