Default 15-91 Question

Is it possible to change a 15-91 into a hand crank? Or do you need a 15-90 to do that? I have a 15-91 with some wiring issues that I would love to turn into a hand crank machine. Any info appreciated.

OK, since no one else has piped up I'll put my 25¢ worth in.

The hand wheel and motor will have to come off along with the cord block. That is three screws. Save the screws, don't loose 'em. Singer uses their own proprietary threads.

Then you'll need a belt shield / bobbin winder which attaches with two screws.

I "think' the belt shield / bobbin winder from a 15 with a spoked hand wheel will bolt on to the same screw holes as the 15-91 motor. "I THINK", I do not KNOW this to be true. I've compared my HOTHER to my 15-91 and the right end of the head looks to be the same. But I haven't taken them apart to verify this.

Then you'll need a spoked hand wheel. That's the easy part.

And the stop motion nob and clutch-washer. The clutch-washer is different from the spoked hand wheel to the 15-91 wheel, I'm not sure about the stop motion nob. Those I don't know where to get

Of course you'll need the hand crank.

And Miriam suggests a finger guard.

I hope this helps a bit. If not at least you know where to get most of the stuff.
For myself, I'd rewire the 15-91, they aren't that hard. Then pick up a 15 clone or a different 15 to make into a hand crank.

Yes, Yes Yes!!! I have done it and it was fun. Very easy to do. I bought my hand crank from someone on the board, can not remember the name. I think it was Joe? Do not get one where you have to cut into the wheel to place the crank on.
You need a wheel with spokes not a solid one. OK, it wasn't Joe. Some one else.
