Question Grease?

As I clean and tinker with my Kenmore 158 18030, I have another question.

Underneath the machine where the bobbin gears (I guess that's what they are), are located, I unscrewed the plate. When I took it off, there was a great big glob of grease, kind of yellowish brown in the opening. I want to replace this, but don't know what kind to use or how much.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Renate

If you have the manual maybe that will help. Or pm jmiller or Steve. They work on machines, I believe.

The manual says zilch, so I'll keep looking.

I have replaced the bobbin drive gear grease with Tri-Flow grease. I suspect you can use most any good quality grease in that location as long as it's not prone to run or be thrown off as the gears move. White lithium grease would also work.
Grease for those kinds of gears is not near as critical as the motor grease issue.

Also if you use a grease that sticks to the gears you don't need to fill the whole chamber. If you'll notice the grease has most likely taken a set away from the gears leaving only a small amount on the gears themselves.
