Default Happy British Singer Addition

I bid on a Singer 66 in a bentwood case on GW. No foot control or plug didn't deter me. It was beautiful, a coffin top case, and less than $30. It was made in Britain in 1925. Motor and light were set up for 220 volt, not 110. No worry!

I took out the motor and light, attached a handcrank and away we go!!!

I will take pics tonight. It was made in 1932, September exactly. I have even found the home of the woman who owned it in 1968. Mrs. Owen.

This is one of the reasons why I love vintage and antique sewing machines. Now, I must find a class 66 set of bobbins! I have so many various odd ones about. Yet none of them fit. I do know that the bobbin that was in it, made a mess of any stitching I attempted!

Congrats! My 66 is my favorite machine. I love the way it sews.
You can get bobbins for it pretty much anywhere. It seems ironic to me that I had trouble with the metal Singer branded ones at Walmart. Some were too narrow to fit my bobbin winder. You would be better off ordering from Sew-Classic.com. Those ones are known by the members here to be good quality.

Goodness Annette, nearly every machine I find is a 66 or a 201 (been more toward the latter lately - picked one up Friday for $10!) but soooo many machines use these bobbins, including the slant-o-matics. All of mine are originals too - never had to buy a new one, just look in the accessory box and there are always some there. You have done well, though. Every machine I have that uses these bobbins is a fantastic piece of engineering. Wouldn't be FMQ'ing with it, but for everything else they are magnificent stitchers. Congratulations.

Bobbins will probably be ordered today. I am wary of cheap bobbins already. Winding my Husqvarna's generic bobbins often result in "wheeeee" as they fly off the winder and throw thread all over. Deal? Dud!!
