HELP with my beloved 301-A

One other idea: there is a silicone product that coats the thread but apparently doesn't hurt the tension assembly. It is in a small white/clear plastic bottle and is a clear liquid, and I'm sorry I don't know the name or where to get it. You can put just a vertical line of it on the thread on the spool and that will be enough. I would check Nancy's notions or other online places. Anyone know?

I've never had any good results with FMQ using my 301. The Singers 15-90 or 237, I don't have any problems at all. I hope you get it figured out.

Using a topstitch needle worked! I didn't realize that my 301 was so finicky. I want to thank everyone who helped me solve the problem with free motion on this machine. The members of this board are the best.
