Default Horizontal Spool pin or thread stand

Hi. A few months back I treated myself to a Featherweight 221. (1951). I love the stiches it makes but have a question. When using a "crosswound" thread spool do you use a horizontal spool pin or even a thread stand? I'm noticing my stiches aren't as perfect with these types of spools. Also, do you tend to stick to smaller spools when using your Featherweight?

Yes, for cross wound thread, one needs to use a thread stand of some sort. There are several ways to achieve getting the thread to come off the spool correctly. There are a couple of links that talk about the cross wound vs stacked and some possibilities for using cross wound thread with a featherweight. https://singer-featherweight.com/blo...-featherweight and https://archaicarcane.com/standing-a...MKmNaEAMM-8sFA

Courtney made one to use on a featherweight and graciously put instructions in a pdf (actually 2, I don't remember the difference). Colorado get-together? has one and Colorado get-together? has the other https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...tructions2.pdf

That's a cool idea! Might have to make me one.

This sounds silly but it works. I have one made out of an empty peanut butter jar with a grommet in the lid. The spool dances around in the jar, kind of fun to watch.

Thanks for your quick responses and helpful links. I will read up on this and try the suggestions.
