Default I found a real deal - I think!

DH and I have been antique shopping for the past few weekends. At our last stop today I was a bit discouraged because every machine I saw was way overpriced. But then, I saw what was destined to be my "new" addition to the family. It was a Singer 101 in a Singer Model 40 Library table! And it was on sale for $30! Even DH loved it, so I grabbed the nearest staff member and while he and DH was loading it up, I went to pay. When the cashier saw I was paying by credit card, she said, "Oh, you get a 15% discount for paying with a credit card! So, tax and all it came to $27.16.
Haven't found much info about it yet, except it was born Oct. 23, 1929 (six days before the 1929 stock market crash). I guessed at how to thread it, plugged it in, and it made a beautiful stitch! I am so excited. I even got the key to the little drawer, although I can't imagine why anyone would lock it.
she has a dull spot in the paint on the bed and on the arm where there was a cloth wrapped around it still filled with pins.
So, give it to me straight - did I do OK or make a mistake?

i'd have snatched that up,too! The cabinet is really pretty, but I'm such a sucker for these pretty old machines, I'd have even paid more probably!

From what I have learned the 101 is Singers first dedicated electric motor machine. I think you did reallly great.

Thanks, everyone for the confirmation that I did OK on my purchase. And thanks, Joe, for that piece of info. about the 101. I did find a manual to download, but love to read about the history of different mode and am having a hard time finding out much about this one. This makes my 7th vintage Singer. I just need a 15-91 to complete my "family"! Can't wait to start cleaning her after church this morning...

I have a Singer 101-4 in the same cabinet (#40). I purchased a manual off of the Internet for my machine. Your cabinet is in much better shape than mine. I paid the same price as you but did have to have my OSMG rewire the machine and I will have to refinish the top of the cabinet. You made a great find and you will love her. Does your light work? My OSMG was unable to fix mine because the switch is bad and the housing for the switch is casted metal and he did not want to mess with it.
