    I was gifted a Singer 301

I was given this singer 301 yesterday. Today I dropped it off at my sewing machine man. 4 hours later it was up and running. It had a bent shaft he straightened, he cleaned and oiled it, rebuilt the tension and she runs like a dream♥ There is just something about the old Singers.....can't beat them! I named her Cat. The friend that gave her to me is called CatName: 301.JPG

Oh, lucky you, she is a beauty. Don't know where I'd put it, but I might put it on my bucket list.

Oh boy! You hit the jackpot! I would love a long-bed black 301. These are amazing! My new 301 is quickly becoming one of my favorite machines. Your friend Cat is a sweetie!

Your longbed black 301 is one of the most coveted machines for collectors. The finish on yours looks very good, too. You have a wonderful friend! I love my 301's--that's right, I have more than one. I learned to sew on my Mom's 301, and she bought me one to take to college. Then, I came across more of them at garage sales, etc, so now, I have five!!! You will love it.

I love my 301(s). Yes, I have more than one, also. You will love sewing on Cat. I just wonder..knowing how these machines are built..How in the world did the shaft get bent?

You are so right about those old machines. I have two 301's, black and mocha, and I love them both. Of course, I also have two-15-91, two-201, two-99K, Spartan, 66 Redeye Treadle, a 66 Redeye treadle that I converted into a hand crank and 3 older singers with shuttle type bobbins. I keep 3 of them set up at all times for doing different quilting functions. I am just in heaven while I am quilting.

You will love sewing on her. I have a mocha coloured one and it's my absolute favourite machine. I really like the look of the black ones. Lucky you.

What a great friend! And I am envious of your sewing repair person. The one that took in my poor 221 kept her 6 1/2 weeks and then only replaced the bulb and belt, never checked the oil or insides or anything else he promised to do. That's when I started to work on my Singers myself. A bent shaft, however, is something I could never handle.
