I kinda doubt this would be the case. Industrial folks insist on performance, not sales pitches. If my company spent 2-5,000 on a machine and it contained sub-standard components, we would be shopping for replacements ASAP.

I've seen a difference in the old and new machines. Give me one from 1940.

Not many of the old domestic Singer sewing machines are going to fare very well if they are tasked to sew carpet all day every day.

If you paid the equivalent price today for a machine that cost what a sewing machine cost back in the 20's-50's, you're going to get a heck of a machine, that will sew whatever you want it to.
