of course, I am still broke. My 'free' Kenmore 52 needs a belt still, as does my treadled red eye. And yet, I still wish for the funds to go get this cutie!

A clone, right?

BLUE! Look at his pretty matching case! Sigh. Too far away, even if it were cheap, like this one! http://hickory.craigslist.org/app/4008194190.html Green, and ten bucks! Two hours away, though.

<must stop looking!>

They are probably both blue.

The first one is about double the price it should be, and the second would likely be a pretty good score.

Hmm. I suppose you have an addiction. You just may be addicted to purchasing sewing machines. I, fortunately, don't have that addiction. I'm addicted to buying fabric. My stash is decent. Not anywhere close to hoarding. I can control that. But I love nice 100% cotton fabric. Good luck. Let us know what you end up doing.

I'd go for the "sowing" machine. It's the right price.

Laura,

I'm of a different opinion on these machines.

Go for the first one if you really want a nice machine.
The machine is in very good condition.
It has it's original motor, light and foot controller. That to me makes it a $45.00 head.
The case is in good condition. Cases such as that will run from $20.00 to $30.00 around here IF you can find one.
It has it's accessory box with the tools. That's another $5.00 to $10.00 value.
Try to negotiate them down if you want, but it is not grossly overpriced in my opinion.

The second machine has a cheaper plastic case, that in itself it not bad, but some of the plastic cases have a tendency to decay, crack, and split from the weight of the machine.
It has a replacement motor, light and controller. This doesn't really affect the running of it, but it does lessen the value to my way of thinking.
And the head itself is not in near as good a condition as the first one.
The seller didn't show a view of the front of the machine, and that could be hiding damage or missing parts. Something to check out.

Here is the pic of the second machine lightened up and focused a bit:

So, the second one is an easy choice due to the price. If it were here I'd be on my way to get it.
But don't pass by that first one just because they are asking a higher price. That is a nice machine.

Here's another vote for the Riviera. It looks like it has hardly been used - the paint is shiny and the pedal is clean. The chrome Is like a mirror. Also the case looks nearly new. Think of it like you're buying a 1963 Chevy Impala with 20,000 original miles, garage kept. I paid $40 for a similar machine on eBay but also had to pay $45 shipping, and I have never looked back. I would try to talk them down some, but if they are firm on $75 I would still buy it. JMHO.

Oooh...pink! But, the belt guard and bobbin winder are blue? Not a bad look.

On Lara's first machine the bobbin winder tire is even blue!

Lara, I understand your predicament. You have machines that need to be worked on, but you want to buy more instead of fixing up the ones you have. I'm there. Actually I've run out of room to spread out and work on the machines. I need to do a serious clean-out. NOT of machines -- don't even think that! Stuff like clothes, kitchenware (extra dishes and pots we never use), etc.

That's right, Sheila, get rid of your kitchen stuff to make more room for your sewing machines... ;-)
