Kemnore 158.1401 cams sticking
#2
How are the cams sticking? Is it when you try to take them off or when you are sewing with them? I bought some new cams for my 158 and the newer ones are hard to get off the spindle. It's like they are just a fraction too small. I'll be interested what others say on this.

Hi Doxie,
I have no idea about your machine. Usually, sticking is a problem with old oil that has dried up and gotten sticky. That involves cleaning everything that moves with a solvent and re-oiling with fresh oil. I'm not familiar with the machine and am also somewhat of novice. So, I can't help you with many specifics.
I looked up the machine and if the photo I found is correct, it has built in cams, not removable ones. If that is the case, the cams could be cracked or need cleaning or oiling. Try to get a free manual if you don't have one. You'll need to take the top cover off and look at the cams and the manual will tell you how. They may have the manual in the Yahoo Kenmore group files. The manual will also tell you how and where to oil it.
Also, if you do not get a better answer than mine, that Vintage Kenmore Sewing Machine group is on Yahoo groups. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/...nmoresSew/info
The other suggestion is the "wefixit" group on yahoo. They have more members, but talk about all kinds of machines.
