How do you remove the metal cam?
I have just inherited this machine with all attachments. I've tried all I can but I can not remove the metal cam to try the plastic ones. I've read the manual and still no luck. Is there a sequence I need to put the levers in? Help please?

Welcome.

Make sure the needle is in the highest position. I believe there is a lever that is on the right side of the opened cam door, near the front of the machine that needs to be pressed to the right. This is per https://www.manualslib.com/manual/96...page=45#manual

Good luck.

I think the metal cam your talking about is actually the spinal that the plastic cam sits on. No need to remove it.

The cam has a white side and a green side the manual says to remove it since the plastic cams will not fit over it. I'm so at a loss.

According to the manual, there is a metal cam that is to be kept in the machine until it needs to be removed so that one can use the plastic decorative cams.

Can you post a picture of the opening where the cams are? In order to post a picture, one will probably need to reduce its size.
According to the first picture on the link I posted above, there is a lever "A" that needs to be pressed to the right to remove and replace cams.

I got out my 1601 and took pictures of the lever that needs to be pressed. Granted it is not the same machine, but the principle is the same. The red "A" and arrow are pointing to the lever. The yellow arrow shows what moves when the lever is pressed all the way to the right.
