OMG! That is a beautiful machine and cabinet! I bought one for less than that but it is not as nice. I would gladly pay that price.

Now I'm going to have to do some more research to find out if this is original or modified - so far I've not encountered any documentation that show this style parlor cabinet coming with a flip top. Though if it's been modified, it would be very easy to tell in person.

I would expect the most likely scenario is the lift mechanism broke, so it was removed, the top taken off and a flip top installed in it's place, and the lift button removed and the hole plugged.

Though a skilled woodworker could have replaced some pieces instead of plugging holes, if they really wanted it to look nice. The lady I just got all the treadle stuff from showed me a cabinet (same basic style as this but with the embossed trim) and she admitted she had taken apart three cabinets and used pieces to put together this one that was near perfect. She did an excellent job finishing it too.

It's the first walnut one I've seen. Have you ran across any other walnut parlor cabinets? I don't know enough to tell about the flip top. i haven't seen one in person.

Been doing a bit of "looking" and did find another like this. That one I can enlarge, and it almost looks like a plug in the place where the Lift button goes, however the other significant difference is the location of the lock on the left side - being on the brace between the door and upper drawer.

I know this is the later style cabinet, the earlier ones had a different front profile of the top drawers. The really early ones didn't have the lower central drawers.

I love finding the "exceptions" and the ones that there is no or very little Singer documentation on.

I've run across this style cabinet in a wide variety of wood - I think it could be special ordered because some of what I've seen - so far I've not seen them listed as "offered" in the Singer advertising to the general public.

i think parlor cabs must be rare around here, never seen one in person, at least that I was aware of.. Like that cabinet, I dont personally like red eye decals tho

After I started watching them, I've seen them way more often than I expected, and from between $35 to $800, depending on condition. Most sell for around the $150- $300 mark in my area.
