A friend gave me an old Singer treadle machine. The serial # is AA573849. i've been able to determine that it was made in Elizabeth, NJ in 1925. I can't find the model number anywhere. Am I just not looking in the right place???? Thanks!

ISMACS has a reference for this (though, as shown the other day when dealing with a JC number, it's not exhaustive!) In this case it shows the machine to be a 66 whose serial number was assigned on August 11, 1925.

Thank you guys, so much! I just knew you would know. I looked on ISMACS, as well on Singer's website, but couldn't find anything. I'm comtemplating painting it with pretty roses and putting a motor on it. What do y'all think? I already have 2 other treadles, but it actually looks pretty good.

I have 4 functioning treadles, two of them Singer red eyes. One of them had been electrified sometime eons ago and I put it back to a treadle. Lots of work but it turned out great.

One is a Franklin 1911 in a parlor cabinet and the fourth is a Singer 9w-7 in a substitute cabinet until it's original cabinet repair is finished.

Would I electrify any of them? Noooooooooooo. There is something unique about each machine even if they are the same model.
Would I paint one? Yes, but if and only if the original paint was in horrid condition like my New Home Model AB. Eventually I may just make it look nice again.

After I treadled it, I decided against the motor! It treadles like a dream and soooo easy. Of course, I get more exercise on some of the others. Those ladies long ago must have had leg muscles like Hulk Hogan. The paint is pretty bad and the decals are mostly gone. There is some rust on the wheel, as well as the throat plates (yes-they are both there!). He said he painted the cabinet when he was in high school (48 years ago), so something needs to be done with that. Overall, it's not too bad, but I want a pink machine desperately, so painting her is looking better and better! I could just paint it black again and get new decals, I don't think it's a red eye, though. The decals around the edge of it have little tiny flowers and swirls. I'll have to check that out. Joe, you know I'm so jealous. I'd love a parlor cabinet, but DH is threatening to go live in the camper if I bring one more machine home. The one today didn't count. LOL!
