Default My $5 machines

First up is the Morse model 350. Its super clean and works if you sew slowly. If you speed up to normal speed it makes a clanking sound. Its also dryer than the Sahara.

Next up is the Necchi. It was marked $30 but the woman couldn't get anyone to buy it so she sold it to me for $5. Its very dry but sews wonderfully.

I know the Morse is a copy of a New Home machine but which one?

Pretty tough to beat those deals. Take a little time to clean and lube them and I'll bet the clanking at speed on the Morse just disappears.

I figured it was a good deal even if I used them for door stops. With them actually working I am rather pleased with myself.

I love your old "finds" for $5! I'm glad you rescued them! I have a hard time by-passing old machines at the junk stores. They remind me of old dogs that no one wants anymore just because they are old. But I think the old machines are great.

I have a new Husqvarna Viking Ruby Deluxe for embroidering but am using and old Elna Su that was going to be junked because it didn't work. I asked if I could have it. So brought it home and took it apart and oiled everything that moved. Let it sit for a few hours, now all the cams turn, goes in reverse and sews a beautiful seam. Sews quilt blocks great!! I'm glad I rescued it...

Now I just need to find the manuals for them.

I don't understand what you mean by "dry." Just that they need oiling? Interested because I recently bought a Necchi (but paid $40!) and haven't done anything with it yet. It's an Electra SX-4000. If anyone knows where I can get a manual for it I'd appreciate it very much!

By dry I mean no oil or grease in the moving connections. Neither machine has lint buildup and look to be well taken care of. I took the tops off and there wasn't even any dust to speak of.

just letting them sit around will dry the oil - put one drop on each moving part
