Default Need Help Dating Helvetia

Well, I normally respond to posted items, this is my first actual post. I just hope I am in the right place to get started.

I am unable to find any information about this machine. I am hoping those of you that are collectors can help.

I have a Helvetia Hand Crank Sewing Machine. #49213. It is in beautiful condition (imho) for its age. :-)
For some reason these are the only two photos that will post. Not exactaly the ones I really wanted.

Ellen

I can't help you, but some of the knowledgeable vintage machine people probably will be able to. I just wanted to say that that is a really pretty little machine!

Thank you Patrice. I wish my other pictures would have posted so everyone could see the front of the case. That is the original key in the case also.

Oh, nice! You hardly ever find the original keys with any antiques. They so often seem to get lost.

Sure is a nice looking machine. I like hand cranks.

That is neat that you have the key. By any chance does it look kind of similar to a skeleton key, but a hole in the end?

I believe it is a Swiss machine and consequently not a whole lot of info here. You may find some additional information by looking at the pictures before and after http://needlebar.org/cm/displayimage.php?pid=2945 It would be much like the long shuttle machines, so maybe a Singer 27 manual would help with the threading. The spool holder is similar to Wheeler and Wilson #9. I can't find the patent for that type of spool holder at the moment, but I remember reading so that the thread wouldn't get caught like a regular spool pin.

I notice you are in Colorado. Are you in the front range?

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

Janey, The coffin lid looks like mine. The 4th photo over looks pretty close, but that one does not have the hand crank on. I do not have the iron cabinet, only the coffin lid case. Thank you for the link. I'll try to search more using the information on that link.

That is a Helvetia 17 G, a Swiss Machine. I am not aware of any dating source.
Congrats on your find. It is beautiful.

Default Hand Crank

Thank you Maria. I have had this machine for several years. Only show it off. I don't really want to have it be my "go to machine". :-) It works though. Nothing wrong with it.

I am thinking it predates my treadles (1910). I sure would like some information on it but am happy to know it is a 17G. That is something more than I knew before.

Still unable to download better photos.
