Thanks, Cathy, for the info on the hide glue. I think I can manage that, but my dilemma is: how to keep glue off the surface of the veneer so that I can refinish it one day. I know that glue on wood will keep it from absorbing stain, etc., and I don't want to mess up the finish. Glue tends to get everywhere.
I've ordered the TreadleLady's book and hope it's all spelled out there so I can get my treadle and cabinet all beautified... I think the machine head is fine but for some grime needing to be cleaned off the surface.

Haha....I just noticed that I have Treadle Lady's book right in front of me. When you get your copy check out page 29. She gives info on repairing the veneer using Titebond Liquid Hide Glue. She says that it doesn't require heat like traditional hide glue. She also mentions to see her website for pictures of veneer glueing
