What a fun surprise! I'm glad I mentioned it and I am so glad that got you to check yours! Now you'll want to hang on to that one!

I still have 5 301's down from 7 or 8. For a few years they seem to drop in my lap wherever I looked. I have one of every color and bed configuration so unless another drops in my lap that needs repair and a new home, I'm about done.

Sweet, I love my 301. I found a 301 in a trapezoid table for a friend, wish I could have hung on to it, but it went to a really good home.

One of the differences in the early machines vs the post-10,000 is that the early ones had "301" as the model #. The later ones have "301A". I see that in Christy's pic above too.

Tammi, I'm not sure exactly what the rules are as to why some are 301's and why some are 301A's but I have machines that are post that first 10,000 that are also 301's without the "A".

Hm,... weird. I could swear I read that on a reputable site. It read something to the effect of all of the machines were made in the US but they only got the A after that particular run. Of course, I can't remember where I read it, so... maybe my memory is faulty.

Congratulations on a super find and thank you for sharing the info about the Limited Edition. It was interesting to read about it. Now I need to go check the serial numbers on my 7 or 8 (?) 301's.

I would be curious to knw why some are only 301 and some have the A added. I can only tell you (with slight embarrassment) that I have 5 and 4 of those are "301"'s and only one is an "A". singer 301. The 301A is an NB number.

Singer started producing the 301 before they went to adding the Letter to the model number to designate the factory- so the early 301's made do not have "A" after the 301 on the little tag.

I have a black short bed 301, and two other 301A machines.
