The 301 controller that comes with machines sold in a carrying case will work. Many of the 301's sold in a cabinet have a 2-prong controller cable that plugs into the bottom connector on the machine. A separate cord with the Singer Bakelite plug powers the machine separately. That setup will not work on a FW.

Actually Caroline, I have a 301 that I inherited from my Mom and I ran to borrow the footpedal/powercord and the bobbin case and now I just have to figure out why the top thread isn't picking up the bobbin thread but the motor runs and she purrs like a little kitten ! I AM SO EXCITED (yes, I'm yelling, lol) this is the deal of a lifetime and I have been wanting a FW for several years now. Color me happy!

Really good chance that the needle is in backwards or that it's threaded backwards. Those are the 2 most common reasons for skipped stitches on a featherweight. NFL - Needle Flat Left and thread it right to left.

The needle's flat will be on the same side as the "flat" part of the throat plate, and if you're head is almost touching the pillar of the machine to see to thread it, you're going the right way.
