She's home! Light isn't very good, but she's here. When I got up this morning I had already decided that I didn't need to get it yet. And then I read the latest posts and when my DH said the shuttle system is so cool. Off we went.
I was afraid we'd be too late. I raced back to the spot in the antique mall where she was and grabbed her. Didn't mean to keep anyone in suspense, but when I tried to post earlier, my computer was warning me about a possible virus, so I had to shut it down, and etc. I'm so excited, can't wait to slowly work on her too. Thank you everyone. I have to make this quick, but I'll keep checking in, posting updates and asking questions. Unfortunately, now I have to clean the house for company! What a horrible time for them to visit! haha. I've already started my list of things to look for and order! |
I will also gladly take suggestions and ideas too, if anyone sees anything right away, that I should look for, do first... :)

The 27 has a spoon shape metal piece below the tension assembly. This predate the tension assemblies that had a pin in the center which released the tension when the presser foot was lifted. Therefore, one needs to press that metal piece to release the tension to remove the fabric. I can't tell if it has a motor boss on it or not. The pheasant decals aren't common. Based on the heads I've seen, pheasant decals generally do not take well to time and grime, making this one (I feel)exceptional. I paid $30 for a Tiffany 115 head, with bed decals worn off in the hand position. It's very smooth! I added a vintage hand crank, $50, and put it in an almost period 301 cabinet, $20. If you love it, and you can afford it, (and possible future investment for a shuttle, bobbins, hc), it isn't an unreasonable price. Be careful, though. You might end up buying a parts 27 and decide to refurbish both... ask me about my 3 RedEyes. |
Sewing machine oil for cleaning the exterior & oiling interior moving parts
Metal polish to clean the easily removable exterior parts like face plate, inspection tags, slides, feet "0000" steel wool to gently polish up the handwheel if the metal polish isn't enough Cotton swabs Cotton string or yarn to use to clean the needle and presser bars with the metal polish (a dab of polish on the bar, thread string around behind, cross ends in front, and pull left, then right, repeat) Caution: rubbing alcohol if you feel the underside mechanisms needs to be cleaned. Do not get on or near the top side of the machine! It will dissolve the clear coat and spoil your beautiful head. You may want a few spool pin felts, a bobbin winder tire, perhaps a vintage ruffler and or other feet, and, of course, the Singer puzzle box for storing those feet. Oh, have fun, bags! I love cleaning up machines. :) |

I'm just "pickled tink" (more than tickled pink). Can't wait to get started. Janey and WIChix, I've taken screen shots of the info so I can print it out and have it handy. Leonf, that's just mean. haha I don't need to get anymore machi… ooh, look at that one! WIChix I don't know how I came to see a picture of a puzzle box, but I was drooling over them this morning with my first cup of coffee. And now my DH thinks its a good idea to go find a different one so I/we can practice on it. Whoopee! He's been corrupted too! |
There are 11 or 12 different styles of puzzle boxes. They vary by age, style of closure (latch or spring), no (or has) thumb indent, included attachments, positioning of attachments, and how the attachments are held in place.
Regardless, all puzzle box attachments are short shank, and will fit your 66 , 27, 15, 201, 99. (I'm not sure, some of the hemmers may be bed mount in some versions). If you find one reasonable...$20?, it's a good buy. I think they typically sell for more, just because of the cool factor! |
WIChix, The puzzle boxes are so cool! I've seen a number of them for sale. Man, the prices vary and not just for the condition or the contents either. Some of the prices are ridiculous.
If I understand correctly, certain numbered kits were made to go with certain type of machine? Even though the majority of the machines are low shank and use the same foot. I did see one box, looks in beautiful condition, not complete, but close. Has a thumb indent, so a later one. $50.00. I can't, but it's so cool! You all are my support group. You support this new addiction! Haha |
