I have one 301A built in 1956 given to me for my HS Grad. in 1957 and sewn on almost daily ever since. Love this machine ! It shares the sewing room with a BERNINA 1630, a Bernette55 (for classes) and a Juki 635DEV overlock now but, my 301A is my go to sewing machine.

Oh, and I think a 301 section is a great idea ! My DD has a 301 also, that she just found thru an online source it is a couple of years older than mine but does not appear to have belonged to someone who sewed. The case is even pristine, must have been in the back of a very deep closet!!!!!!

I have a 301A that my DH found at a yard sales for $20. The lady bought it brand new and was the only one to ever used it. it is tan/white and the case looks brand new, she's a real beauty. Use my FW for all my classes and most of my every day sewing just because her stitch is so beautiful and the soft click...click...click sounds she makes as she sews. Also have a 401 and several other old Singers, they are wonderful and very durable.

How funny that you, too have a 301 AND a Bernina 1630. Did you realize that they are both rotary bobbin machines? I didn't know that for a long time. Another machine you would like is a Singer 201, another rotary bobobbin machine. My theory is that once you have sewn on a rotary bobbin, that is the only type that seems to sew "right." Oh, all right, I will admit that I have not only my 1630 and a 301 (actually, THE 301 that I learned to sew on), but four other 301's, about 10 featherweights, and probably 30 or 40 other machines. But my favorites are my rotary bobbin machines! (The featherweights, 301's, 201's, and my 1630.)

I would like to have a thread about the 301. I have a black 301 in the cabinet but haven't used it yet.

Can anyone tell me about an online source where they got their walking foot for their 301 and if they are satisfied with it and what they use it for in quilting and a picture of it?

I have a 301(Lynn) and she is a great workhorse. Right now she is in my closet waiting to meet her new neighbor a singer treadle machine (Dorothy) made in 1913 in Elizabeth N.J. She was a total mess and as soon as we finish her she will sit next to Lynn in my new sewing room when we finally move back to Pa. I also have a Singer 6233 and 9230 I use these two on a daily basis ( if I screw up a machine I'd rather it be one of these) I also have a ton of attachments that came with each machine and I too couldn't tell you what most of them are for just yet. I love them all. All I need now is the Featherweight and I'd be one happy lady.

I bought a 301 this summer in Lancaster, Pa. Haven't used it too much yet, am needing a new foot or rewiring, altho I've used my FW foot to check it out. Already bought a walking foot, but have no other foot then the standard one so far. Glad to see this thread, good info on the tensions.
