Hello all,

I picked this up machine from a friend who owns an antique shop. She wants to save the base, refinish it, put a top on it and display small items on it. I think this is the worst case of neglect I have ever seen. Has anyone seen worse?

Doesn't look like there's much left of that poor old girl. If only she could tell us her story. Hopefully it wasn't all as sad as the ending.

pretty bad!
It would be a good 'green' save for the irons, tell her to go for it.

I've seen similar on Craigs List for a truly unreasonable amount of money. I don't think I've seen worse short of a fire that 10x posted about though.
It can be made to run again but it would be a labor of love or just because you can.
If you want a custom painted machine, that's a good candidate.

Look up electrolytic rust removal. It's a great way to derust things in that bad of shape.
Are you going to try to save it?

I think you need to hold a funeral.

Rodney,

Current plan is to Kroil all bolt and nut connections and let it soak for about 1 week then I will remove the head and set it aside for a while and sandblast the base and see what I need to do in order to ready it for a table top.

That's pathetic. My wife said it looks like it went through Katrina. I think much worse than that.
Lots of penetrating oil to take the base apart, then sand blast the irons. As for the machine ........ sniff, sniff cry.

I have to agree with the funeral plans. Poor thing. It lived a hard life.
