She should be able to get between $150. to $400.

Plain Jane 03-16-2011 12:01 PM

I'm talking to someone in VA who has one for $250, built in 1957. I might buy it sight unseen, because I don't know how I can get down to try it out.

abdconsultant 03-16-2011 12:02 PM

I collect & restore & sell them. Tell her to start at $300.00.

leaha 03-16-2011 12:32 PM

I paid $200. each for my 2 FWs #1 was all cleaned and oilded ready to sew, no case but lovely machine. #2 had been in a attic for over 20 some years, needs to be cleaned but does have a case, but had to get a new power cord for it. It will be going to my sister in Ga.

I have seen them go for up to $700 in great condition, good wiring, box, attatchments, etc.

duckydo 03-16-2011 02:17 PM

$50 dollars would be just to buy it for parts and if it is just not in running condition. They are worth lots more that $50. even if antiques are down. Featherweights really aren't antiques(something 100 yrs old is considered a antique) but maybe collectibles

leepat 03-16-2011 02:46 PM

I think the dealer did know about the price of Featherweight's and just wanted to make a good deal on it for themselves. The older the machine in good shape and with attachments the higher the price. Be careful in selling and get a good price. Pat

fairydawn 03-16-2011 02:58 PM

DH got me one for Christmas and it is in perfect condition with case and attachments. He paid $250 for it. {1956}

Marilynsue 03-16-2011 03:08 PM

I haven't seen any of them go in this area for less than $300-400.

Debbie C 03-16-2011 03:11 PM

I frequent antique shops in Binghamton, NY during visits to my daughter and have seen featherweights complete up to $300. Here on Long Island, they can go as high as $400-450 in good condition.
I hope she doesn't 'give it away' !!

Debbie C 03-16-2011 03:15 PM

I hope you do buy it - you will be giving yourself a real treat - I am a proud owner of three fw's right now and wouldn't part with any of them!!

1934 is quite hard to find.with the case & if decals are good, $400 would be a min. price. $200 is highway robbery. '34s have a green-lined case, brass closures.

mighty 03-16-2011 03:22 PM

I just purshased a beautiful 1941 for 585.00. 1934 should be worth quite a lot if in good condition.

Judith 03-16-2011 04:53 PM

I paid $140 for mine in absolutely mint condition. If she is happy with the $200 I think that would be great for both her and the buyer. She would have sold the machine and the buyer would have something she is going to treasure forever. INHO

Mariposa 03-16-2011 05:00 PM

I saw a green one listed for $800.00. I asked lots of questions, and the lady has no clue about the machine. One owner, only two feet, and no case. Looks to be in good condition tho. I told her they go for $250-$400 on-line. She said the sewing machine place told her to ask that. Guess she will have it for a long while!

denidesigns 03-16-2011 05:26 PM

I think the price(200) is low. If good condition should go for more. I got one for my birthday. It is a 1953 (my birthyear). I purchased from a dealer of featherweights in england. He checks them and refurbishes as necessary so ready to be used. We paid $450 and I felt it was well worth the money.

nwm50 03-16-2011 05:32 PM

well....i have the green/white one and paid $30 for it with attachment and great case just a few months ago. Had a 1937 sold to a board member for $225 ? I got my 1950 black near perfect-one owner machine for $237....SO i guess it depends on who is selling/buying to get these. Some people buy them for collections and i think they should be used! Just my opinion...

brosier 03-16-2011 05:37 PM

In Texas, we rarely see one for sale at less than $500

beateannkeith 03-16-2011 06:04 PM

You need to go out on Ebay.com and see the prices.

galvestonangel 03-16-2011 06:44 PM

Tell that antique guy, if he gets any in, you'll buy all he has for $50 each. He is nuts. I think $200 is a steal. I paid $450 for my first one and that was 20+/- years ago.

Dodie 03-16-2011 07:02 PM

they sell for 600.00 to 700.00 dollars here I was lucky and found one on ebay for 300.00 dollars

The antique dealer is lying through their teeth. Greed knows no bounds...

Not only are featherweights going for $400 and up, the one your friend has is a VERY EARLY model, if it's indeed a 1934 model. The 221 was only introduced the year before, in '33. A 1934 model in decent condition will bring an even higher price to the right collector. The early ones are hard to find, and rare. In later years Singer was producing 50,000 a year, but only 10,000 were made in 1934. It's rare.

BE sure to tell her not to sell it to your other friend for $50.00. She either doesn't know anything about FW's or wants to buy it for a steal and really make a lot of money on it. If it is in great shape, with case and all it is well worth $200.00. The owner might go on ebay and sell it for even more. BEfore she sells it, tell her to check them out on Ebay and see what they are selling for on there.

Well if you can get it for that price GO For It. That would be a good buy and you would really enjoy using it.To be sure to find out what year it is go to the singer site and check out the serial number on it. That will tell you what year it is.

If that antique dealer has any to sell for $50.00 let me know I will buy one from them, even without a case.

If I lived in the PA area, I would purchase the FW for $50....and then some.

Caroltee 03-16-2011 10:24 PM

If it were my mother’s sewing machine it would be priceless. Wouldn’t think of selling it.

ScubaK 03-16-2011 10:37 PM

I hope you are asking upwards to 400$.
That is what I see them going for 'round here.
I'd love to have one, just cannot spend that kinda money on one.

I just bought mine on Ebay this week. I've been watching and bidding on several but they were going over $300. I finally bought one for $229 and was happy to get it!

Roberta 03-17-2011 10:12 AM

My sewing machine repair person said my FW, in it's condition and case would bring right around $900. That just about floored me.

Annaquilts 03-17-2011 10:14 AM

$200 is bottom line in our area for a machine that is not in mint condition but has a case and no attachments or table.

rahaube 03-17-2011 06:03 PM

I believe the antique dealer is speaking only of the value as an antique not the value to a quilter. Featherweights are very popular and $200 is certainly not an unreasonable price.

or she could know about Featherweights and hopes she can buy it for $50 and sell it for a whole lot more. Please tell your friend not to take any less than $400

borntoquilt 03-20-2011 07:36 AM

I saw one in an antique store in Anacortes WA a few years ago for $950.00. Have seen "rare" ones @ featherweight show for over $1,300.00. She can sell it for whatever a person is willing to pay! Good luck!

Is yours a 222 free arm? If its not then $900 is outrageous.

auntiehenno 03-22-2011 12:24 AM

I paid $450 for mine 10 years ago, and it is in stellar condition.

pojo 03-22-2011 03:05 AM

The dealer will always tell you they aren't worth much because they buy low and sell very very high prices.

Anything they buy they don't pay much for that's how they make their living.

Jamiestitcher62 03-22-2011 04:26 AM

Ummm, I'm looking for a 1934-35 Featherweight, so if you don't want it......LOL.

Really, I have been looking at real old models and $200 is a steal. I think their first year was around 1934. I really want a 1935 (the year my Mother was born), but a nice one in good shape is hard to find. I want good looking decals. My Grandmother had a Singer 201 and she used it so much that there isn't a decal on it, and it's just not pretty.
