Many viewed my previous post about "Anne" the machine/cabinet that I got last weekend from a customer of ours. Thought you might want to see how the old girl cleans up! :)

WOW! Looks SOOO much better. Very pretty!

Charlee 05-17-2011 02:07 PM

I gave the cabinet and the machine a quick wipe down with Murphy's Oil Soap, followed with a rub-down of Howard's Re-Stor-a-Finish. A coat of Howard's Bees Wax with Orange Oil provided the finishing touch.
The machine itself got a coat of TR-3 car wax.

Looks great. It's amazing what a little cleaning will do.

craftybear 05-17-2011 02:14 PM

Charlee 05-17-2011 02:37 PM

Thanks!! :) I'm exceptionally pleased with how she looks now...and I was thrilled when I first saw her all dusty, dry wood and all!
I think I'm going to pass on the professional refinishing now...the cabinet looks fine enough for me!

cjomomma 05-17-2011 02:57 PM

Dang Charlee it looks almost brand new. She is so pretty.

cabbagepatchkid 05-17-2011 03:49 PM

WOWZA!!! She came out beautiful!!!!

I just did the same treatment to a cabinet that I have. What a difference and it really doesn't take much time. You will love the stool. I have one, just like it, and it is just the right height for the table that I'm using for my vintage machines!

mamaw 05-17-2011 03:58 PM

She is a beauty....certainly did clean up nicely.

maryb119 05-17-2011 04:12 PM

Kas 05-17-2011 10:56 PM

Yea! Thanks for the pics, Charlee. She did clean up nice! I am going to have to look for some TR3.

kwendt 05-18-2011 03:00 AM

A beautiful thing! Gosh, Charlee... the stuff you do is so NICE! If I remember correctlly, you DON'T use the TR-3 Resin wax on the decals, correct? I forget...

J Carol 05-18-2011 04:08 AM

Charlee is there someplace you can get decals for any of the old sewing machines??? I now have 10 that I have rescued or purchased cheap and just can't stand to see a part of our history just thrown away. Thanks for the help with the cleanup of them I am getting started right away.

NUTMEG10 05-18-2011 05:05 AM

Oh is she a beauty. That cabinet is fabulous. Congratulations on a beautiful piece of history.

Yooper32 05-18-2011 05:34 AM

Waaaaaaaah, your table is much prettier than mine. I think mine is maple. My machine though is pristine and was that way when I bought her. She purrs like a kitten. I just love it.

dixiebelle162002 05-18-2011 06:12 AM

Great looking machine and thank you very much for letting us know what you use to clean and restore the wood.

Thanks! I put it right over decals and all. Don't rub real hard....but it didn't hurt anything! :) I know it looks like the decals at "spotty" in my photo...they're all intact...the only damage I found to the machine are some small chips in the enamel around the edges of the bottom.

Carol, you can get the decals for the Featherweight...I see them on ebay quite a bit. Other than having Billy make you one that says "Singer" tho, I don't think so. :(

ShirlinAZ 05-18-2011 07:37 AM
