Another Machine Followed Me Home!

5 Attachment(s)
I know nothing about this machine other than it's a New Home and it looks like it was made between 1883 and 1885 according to the numbers online. The machine has been well-used and has lost all of its decals. The cabinet has also seen better days - 1 drawer pull is missing and some of the trim on the coffin top is missing. The machine was a little stiff at first but I oiled it up and it seems to work fine - I haven't put a belt on it yet. It has one shuttle and a couple of bobbins with it. There is an extra shuttle but it is so rusted that it's not usable. This is definitely not a show model but the guy who had it was ready to get rid of it and if I hadn't taken it, he was going to let a guy have it that wanted to turn it into a coffee table - at least that's what he said - may have been handing me a line. It was for sale for over a month so maybe not a line....who knows!! Anyway, does anyone have any information about this one and/or have a source for shuttles and bobbins? I've searched unsuccessfully online to find anything like it. The photos are a little big....sorry!! Thanks!!

Congrats on the new addition. She's still wonderful regardless of her blemishes.

Love her!!! So pretty, you will have so much fun using her. This guy sells parts and he is nice, knows a lot about the old machines. http://sewitsold.com/

Ah Debbie...the machines are onto you now....they'll follow you home all the time now and whine and whimper at the door until you let them in!! :)

Nice machine!

The cabinet may be a bit rough but it's still a lovely style. And is that an extension I see hanging down on the left side? I've never seen a treadle cabinet with an extension. Glad you rescued it from possibly becoming a coffee table.

My maternal grandmother had a machine very similar to this. It was well used too. My aunt still has it. New Home is an old name. The Japanese acquired it some time ago and it eventually turned into Janome. I have one of the last New Home machines and still love it. It has been very dependable. Yours will give you hours of enjoyment. Well done.

Congratulations on a great find. I really like that cabinet extension. I am going to look on the underside of my New Home that I got last week and see if there is any evidence of hinges there.

Oh, what's that? I think I hear another knocking at your door.
