bobbin case, shuttle, hook and what?
 

I want to take the whole sha-boom out. I'm not having much luck finding out how probably because I don't know what it's called. I am talking about all the lower bobbin business.

I have a machine I am dismantling for parts and it's the perfect time to learn how to remove stuff. Down the road I want to learn to re-paint a machine so it would be good to learn how to remove those round parts at the end of the shaft in the bobbin area so it is clear to paint.

Can anyone tell me the names and give me a clue on how to get it out?

ummm, which type/brand/model of machine?

I am working on a Kenmore but it has a side access vertical bobbin. I figured it might be comparible to the 301 verticle bobbin.

Is each one different?

The Kenmore and the 301 are both side loading vertical bobbin systems, but the parts do not interchange. The Kenmore uses standard Class 15 bobbins and related parts. The Singer 301 uses the same skinny bobbin and case as the Featherweight.

The parts are:

Bobbin
Bobbin case - little case the bobbin sets in
Shuttle or Bobbin hook - half moon looking thing that rotates back and forth with a sharp point on it.
Shuttle race cover- Round thing that holds the Shuttle in

What's wrong with that machine that your parting it out? Just curious.

It appears it fell on the hand wheel and it has several small radiating fractures. The clutch knob has a melted burn area and a crack too. I tried matching the hand wheel but didn't have a good substitute.

Joe for the bobbin stuff, it's the part just beyond that last one. Once I take off the retaining ring and remove the hook. What is this last part called? It's the part that is attached to the long rod across the bottom.

Go to searspartsdirect.com and click on "manuals" and then enter the model number. Many models have manuals and parts lists. You can print or save the diagrams. If they don't have one for the model you have, search for a similar model. They help show the order the parts are in and name them.

Thank you. I checked it just now but it's not telling me enough. I have taken out all of the set screws and it's looking like I need to take out a couple roll pins. I don't have a punch that size-yet. ;)

Is it the driver? The driver is the part that oscillates the hook. Then there's a long rod, called a shaft.

If I was looking for parts diagrams, I'd type in side-loading oscillating hook system.
