Tammi,
I got the Class 15 plastic bobbins because at one time we had a Singer 3820 that took those bobbins. Machine is gone and we still have a bunch of those plastic bobbins. They work, but they don't hold as much thread and they are a wee bit smaller. I've also got some plastic 66 bobbins. Those are really different from the metal ones. They seem to work in most machines, but not all. I don't like them either except for those machines with plastic bobbin cases. Joe |
Bobbins
Joe,
My son worked in a sewing machine business for 14 years. As to the plastic bobbins, he always said that if the bobbins were "genuine" singer, the plastic ones were okay, but the "off-brand" ones were worthless! The plastic bobbins do have to go on the winder a certain way. If you get the wrong side to the inside, the bobbins won't go on the spindle to wind the bobbin. Just turn the bobbin around and it works fine. If you force the bobbin from the wrong side, the bobbin will crack/splinter/break! Just my two cents worth! Glad to see you are evidently feeling much better! Jeanette Frantz |
Jeanette,
Thanks for the info. I only have one or two plastic Singer bobbins for each of the Class 15 and 66. Those aftermarket ones I've gotten from Sew-Classic are the same size, shape and contours. The only differences is no Singer name. Joe |
I prefer vintage bobbins for my old machines wherever possible. I've had problems with the crappy bobbins sold at Walmart and Joann's. I think the featherweight bobbins were the worst offenders, one of them wasn't quite round and it got stuck in the bobbin case. I didn't think I'd ever get it out.
Several years ago I found an Ebay auction for 35 old class 66 metal bobbins for a mere $5 plus shipping. I have 5 machines that use this bobbin. :) Sharon |
Bobbins! I just bought a tupperware (12 in x 6 in) filled with class 15 bobbins just recently for 3 bucks!
