Where can I get metal bobbins to fit my Singer Model 15? Do the new metal bobbins fit?

I've never had a problem with buying 15 bobbins from Wallyworld or Joanns. I have dozens of them. The only 66 bobbins that work are from sew-classic.

Guess I'll be the odd woman out. Many of the metal bobbins don't fit the 15 bobbin winder well. Sew Classic doesn't even test the metal ones anymore or recommend them for the 15 because the quality control in China is down the tubes. The best bet is to try and find vintage class 15 bobbins. I don't have issues with the new metal bobbins working in many of my machines, but the 15's bobbin winder is very particular about the correct fit.

I purchased a package of class 15 metal bobbins at Walmart a few months ago. Most of them were ok. One has to placed on the winder on one side only. The other side only goes on so far and sticks. I see no obstructions and have no idea why the bobbin sticks.

I am so happy that my mil made the mistake of purchasing 4 class 66 bobbins many years ago. They works well in my redeye treadle.

I bought two 10 packages of Dritz brand Class 15 metal bobbins at JoAnn fabrics. Out of the 20 bobbins more than a fourth were so crooked they wobbled on the shafts and caused trouble in the bobbin case.

Of the Class 15 bobbins I've bought from Sew-Classic All of them are good and useable. Same with the Class 66 and other bobbins too.

Our Wal-Marts don't carry the class 15 bobbins anymore. Not in metal anyway.

I ordered the same metal class 15 bobbins that Jenny carries from the supplier here in Canada (their spreadsheet refers to them as "top quality"), and have had no trouble with them at all in the 15-90 here, and no complaints from the lady who bought a bunch from me with the 15-91 she bought off me. Maybe I just got lucky?

The ones Jenny's recommending for the model 15s is the plastic ones now?!?! (That's what the 2518P is)

The plastic Class 15s are a bit smaller than the metal ones, at least the ones I have are. I don't care for them.

I "think" Sew-Classics recommendation of the plastic ones is because the new metal ones don't have the correct notch in the hub for the winders with the little peg on them. The winders with the spring work OK with them.

I think that's the reason. But I won't sign my name to it.

I don't care for the plastic 66 bobbins either. I don't think I even have any of the plastic 15 bobbins here. I think they rattle, and I always thought they might be "different" as far as tension because of their weight. I've also never cut myself with a metal bobbin. :rolleyes:

It's a shame if the metal ones are worse. I was always "taught" metal bobbins for metal cases, and plastic for plastic bobbin cases. Maybe I'll order some more of the ones from the supplier and test them out again. I had no concerns about the quality of the ones that arrived that first time. Good fit, fit on the bobbin winder, proper notch, etc. I've seen some of the cheap cheap metal 15 bobbins that barely have a notch, so I know what you refer to.
