Classic"B" treadle machine
 

I inherited a Classic"B" treadle machine from my grandmother. There was no instruction manual with it. It has no serial number and no manufacturer name. I can't find it on any list of manuals. While searching antique treadle machines i found an identical machine, same exact look..same exact design and the name on it was MARYLAND.I found what looks like "No. 80" above the bobbin winder. Anyone have any information on either of these?

Welcome. You probably have what is considered a badged machine. That means the manufacturing company that actually made the machine sold to other companies who would put whatever name they wanted on the machine. I'm guessing that it might be a National made machine.

First of all let me welcome you to the QB. You came to the right place for vintage and antique machines. We have some pretty knowledgeable people here about older machines. I am not one of them however. I have a few vintage machines but not the pros. Ourworkbench is one of the best! Again welcome to the QB.

Thank you for the picture. Yes, I believe you have what is considered a VB-TT Type 5 (<link) National made machine. The decals are different and the front inspection plate is different. The rest of the machine sure looks like the Arrow pictured. I don't have time right now to do the research, but I think there was someone else who had a similar machine.

Now that you have figured out how to post images, maybe some more of the nose plate and any "goodies" found in the drawers?

Looking for the numbers on my ClassicB
 

I attempted to post the photos of the items I found in the drawers. So far nothing has come through..tried again so you may see doubles.
Can anyone tell me where I might find the ID numbers on this machine...I have been all over it and from what I have read all machines have a number..not mine!

Here I am, and I still have my National as in the link Janey provided. Tell me what you need to know, it's not too complicated of a machine. I hope you have a shuttle, but if you don't I can get you some ebay seller contact info where I found one.

I'm wondering if after you selected the images that you forgot to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.

I'm not sure, hopefully Joe can tell you where to find the serial number. Sometimes they are on one of the slide plates or perhaps underneath them. It makes it impossible to have a serial number on the slide plate and then have it go missing or replaced.

Thank you, Joe for chiming in. Could you show a picture of the nose plate threaded. It reminds me a bit of a New Home I have from the side. Also, I know going through the top leaf tension would probably be a bit different as well.

Oh, I'm pretty sure that machine takes 20x1 needles, but some of figured out how to drop a 15x1 needle down a bit to make it work.

The serial number on mine is under the front slide plate. Here are pictures of the thread path, I hope you can see the red thread. I threaded the needle from L to R, and the hand wheel turns towards you, as with a Singer. Needle on mine has flat on the shank to the R, and it does look like a 20x1, although I would have to put a known 20x1 into the machine and try it to know for sure.
