Clones from A to Z

At one time I commented here that there were so many brands and names of clones one could make a collection of their names from A to Z.

Well I'm almost there. I have pics on my hard drive of the following brands of 15 clones.

Clones, From A to Z

A: Admiral, Aldens, Ambassador, American Beauty, American Home

B: Bel Air Imperial, Belvedere, Brother, Butterfly

C: Capri, Challenge, Champion, Commodore, Commander, Compac, Comrie, Continental, Coronado, Coronado Princess, Coronet, Cromwell

D: Domestic, Dressmaker

E: Edison, Electra Deluxe, Elite, Emerson

F: Famous, Federal, Fei Ren Pai, Fiatelli, Fleetwood Deluxe, Free-Westinghouse

G: Good Housekeeper

H: Homestead, Hother Sewmatic, Hudson

I: International, Imperial National, Ideal, Imperial, International

J: ~

K: Kenmore

L: Liberty

M: Margiotta, Martin, McCalls, Mercury, Mercury Electric, Modern Home, Modernage, Monarch, Montgomery Wards, Morse

N: New Home

O: ~

P: Precision Master, Premier, Princess

Q: ~

R: Remington, Revere, Riccar, Rockford, Rodney, Royal

S: SBF, Seam Master, Sew Magic, SEWBEST, SEWMOR, Simplex, Soverign, State, Sterling, Stitch Master, Stradivaro

T: Tailor Maid, The Haile Bros. Co.

U: Universal

V: Vanderwoort’s, Verlex, Vogue

W: White, Wizard, Wyman’s

X: ~

Y: Younker’s

Z: ~

I'm only missing: J, O, Q, X, Z. That's a lot of names and I have multiple pics for some of them. Way to many to post on the forum, that's for sure.

I got many of my pics from shopgoodwill.com, the QB forum especially Miriams "Will The Real 15 Clone Please Stand Up" thread, my own machines, and a few from other places. There were some pics in Miriam's thread that were so big my computer couldn't open them, but I'm not going back through that 50 page thread to find them.

Anyway if anyone has a traditional 15 clone whose name starts with J, O, Q, X or Z. Please let me know. I'd love to have them to finish my alphabet.

Jaguar?????

QuiltFaerie 06-22-2014 03:26 PM

I recently saw Cinderella and also Margaret on facebook too.

J Miller 06-22-2014 05:40 PM

I also have pics for each name I posted above. Way to many to post here. Just the names don't help, but they are very interesting. If you can post links to or pics of these machines I'd love it.
I don't do FB or Tweeter or any of those social media things so I can't go there to get any pics.

Actually Janome was the first one I thought of when I saw J. They also used to make them in Australia in the 1950s (there was one on eBay a few days ago).

Nice list J Miller!

Caroline S 06-23-2014 05:45 AM

Good work Joe. I often thought I would do the same thing. But it was only a thought, LOL

J Miller 06-23-2014 06:53 AM

I just started gradually on this project. Miriam has helped a bunch with here thread and some pics she hunted up for me.
I'm waiting for a traditional red clone for my collection. I've seen a bunch of them, but never a red one. Blues, greens, beige, tan, grey, two tones, copper, butterscotch, yellow and the classic black.

Considering the colors they were made in, somebody had to make a red one.

I'd love to see the pics of them all!!

J Miller 06-23-2014 08:28 AM

I'd love to be able to post them, but it would be practically impossible on the forum. I've been thinking of putting together a Photobucket album of them, but haven't gotten there.

Oops. Sorry. I thought V was still missing on your list.

J Miller 06-23-2014 08:58 AM

NapaJohn,

V was covered but I didn't have any Viscounts. That white and grey one in the UK is gorgeous. I'd love to have it. But I'll settle for the picture.

The butterscotch colored one in Maine .... "Extremely rare" ..... HA HA, that seller is smoking whacky weed. Nice machine though.

Thanks for the pics.

Here's a black Jaguar I may go see this week. It's incomplete. They also made some that looked like the old Morse machines- like a Chevy dashboard. Hard to find pics, but I have seen many over the years.

Here's a link to a pink and grey Jaguar. http://www.bettycrafter.com/to-sell-...-the-question/
I'm not sure about the niceties of nabbing pics from websites.

I have Margaret's sisters Cinderella and the Countess. They have some clone features externally but internally they are not exactly a clone. They are very cute though.

And another one, Dynamic. It looks like the same model, just a different badge. Still looking for Cinderella.

Found it!!! Again, these are not my machines but gosh, I sure wouldn't mind owning one. They are super cute!

amcatanzaro 06-23-2014 04:08 PM

Hey! that's my dryer! Does that mean a Cinderella just showed up? Wishful thinking I know.

I think I've seen a red clone. I'll search.

Giggling!! Wow, wouldn't that be nice???

amcatanzaro 06-23-2014 04:23 PM

Drat, not a clone. I think Miriam's boss used to have a similar one.

It has the same bobbin area as a clone and it is made in Japan. There are other machines like that - Atlas, Morse and other machines made by Brother. I love that machine. He is not my boss any more - he quit, the company went out of business and I got a different job, but he still has it and he loves it, too. He says it reminds him of when he played with his fire truck. I kind of think it more reminds me of when cars looked like that...

Dryer nothing - I love that little box Cinderella lives in.

When I search for Sewmor sewing machine 620 I get a couple of those machines in images. I would never leave one of those behind.

I knew I should have said ex-boss. Duh.

A clear full front pic sized 640x480 would be really nice. You are right that is one I don't have.

Here's that 1960s (or '50s) Janome mentioned earlier. Made in Australia means assembled here, but it is a Singer clone (although not a 15). I'd have picked it up for a tenner, but Ashcroft is waaaay too far (it's in Sydney).

I think I have a New Home just like it.
