OK, I'm in. This 128 crinkle, after-market hand-crank, was my initiation into the VSM addiction. Paid way too much for it. Have since acquired 3 15-91s, a 201-2, and a couple others for the same money. Lesson learned. However, it is so handy for quick, off-site jobs. I use it alot.

White Rotary Embossed

Number one of fourteen crinkle finish machines. I purchased this one in January only because I already had a cabinet that had been butchered to mount a Vintage ZZ machine. Serial number is FR5049222. As you can see I have not fixed the cabinet yet. The cloth covered wiring on this machine is actually very, very good. This machine apparently used a lot as the crinkle finish is rubbed off of the raised stitching area.

Singer 27 Refurbished Crinkle

Serial #: D905664, model 27. This machine was refurbished with a very poor crinkle finish. In fact every part of this machine was coated with the finish excepting the bobbin winder. The finish is flaking off of the hand wheel cover. One ugly machine! But a good candidate for a artistic repaint.

I love those '20s Whites with the "embossed" designs. I found one of those at an estate sale back in 2000 or so but I passed it by. That's the one and only one that I have ever seen in person. They must be very collectible.

Unless I am mistaken these came in a solid Bronze version and those are highly collectible.

Brown Crinkle White

My White has a brown crinkle finish. It was the first one I had ever seen and fell in love with on first sight. I found him at a Salvation Army Thrift store for $35.00 with the cabinet. He has some attachments and although very noisy at speed he sews beautifully. I was told it was an industrial machine, but am not sure. He does sew through heavy fabrics easily and I've made a baby quilt so far on him. I call him Brownie. :)

Overlander,

That's a gorgeous machine. It is not an industrial by any means of the word, but it is a very strong domestic machine.
There is a friction drive pulley on the end of the motor that drives the hand wheel. Check it carefully for flat spots. If it has flat spot(s) it will be noisy as heck. The pulleys can be had from forum member Mizkaki, Sew-Classic and other places. Replacing that drive pulley will quiet that machine down tremendously. Somtimes you can move the little pulley in or out to put a smooth area against the hand wheel.
One thing many of us do is put something between the motor and machine to hold the pulley off the hand wheel when we are not using the machines. This prevents the flat spots.

Thanks for the info Joe. My husband opened the motor and cleaned it and regreased (?) which helped. I'll take a look at the drive wheel for flat spots. I know the bobbin winder rubber wheel was really flat in places. It is a sweet machine and I love using it.

^ Right you are, except bronze-plated. I looked it up. Made in 1926 only, made for White's 50 year anniversary.
